Jenrose Malloy
Intern
Hello, my name is Jenrose, and I am a student in the Counseling Program at Stephens College in Columbia, MO, with several years of experience in the mental health field. I hold a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from the University of Missouri and have worked in both a community behavioral health clinic and an inpatient mental health facility, as well as many years in various preschool settings, including Head Start.
Growing up in a rural, lower socioeconomic area of Missouri has given me a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by similar populations, fueling my passion for this work. My experiences as a teacher witnessing the struggles of my students and their families, as well as my own personal struggles as a child, inspired my transition into the mental health field.
I take a client-centered, strengths-based approach, believing in the potential for growth and change in every individual. My collaborative and respectful therapeutic style aims to empower clients to explore their emotions and identify their strengths, fostering a trusting environment for personal growth and self-discovery. I have experience working with children in diverse settings, addressing trauma, extreme behavior issues, justice-involvement, foster care, and those with developmental disabilities.
I am a member of the American Counseling Association and actively participate in advocacy and social justice initiatives statewide. I believe it is my responsibility as a counselor to advocate for change to better the lives of the people, bring back a sense of community, and empower others to advocate for themselves.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, spending time with family, and attending concerts. Music is a passion of mine and I believe the best way to experience it is live. If I’m not at a concert, I am happiest spending summer days in the water, with the sun shining on my face and laughing with friends or family.
