Jamie Skinner, Intern

Jamie is a second-year Master of Social Work (MSW) student at the University of Missouri–Columbia, currently completing her clinical internship at The Heriford House. In this role, she provides therapeutic services to individuals experiencing a wide range of mental health challenges. Following graduation, Jamie intends to pursue clinical licensure and continue her work in the field of psychotherapy.

Jamie brings a unique blend of professional and lived experience to her clinical work. From 2016 to 2023, she served as a licensed foster parent, working closely with children and families impacted by trauma, stress, and other adverse life experiences. Her direct experience supporting children with diagnoses such as ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder deepened her commitment to the mental health field and inspired her path toward clinical social work.

In Spring 2025, Jamie served as a student clinician at the University’s Integrated Behavioral Health Clinic, where she provided individual therapy utilizing evidence-based modalities, with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She is currently broadening her clinical expertise through training in the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy, reflecting her growing interest in supporting couples and relationships.

This semester, Jamie is concentrating her academic and clinical efforts on the treatment of childhood trauma and trauma-related responses, while continuing to develop specialized skills in couples counseling. Her approach to therapy is grounded in empathy, evidence-based practice, and a deep commitment to serving individuals and families from diverse backgrounds with professionalism and compassion
