Franchot Walker, LPC, NFLB
Therapist

Hello I am Franchot, but I go by Frenchy, I’m from St. Louis, and I’m 30 years old. I am a first generation college student with a B.S. in psychology, with minors in communication and coaching, and a M.Ed. in counseling psychology with an emphasis in sports psychology. I bring an ethnic perspective of someone who grew up in a low SES while in a very diverse area so I have experience with people from all walks of life. I chose to be a therapist because growing up in St. Louis you are exposed to a lot of trauma growing up and I want to help those who experience similar things growing up. My mom was handicapped since I was in the 3rd grade before passing while I was in high school. I want to use my past and pain to connect with others and try to help them through the difficult times that they face. I feel that if I can make it through my rough times that anyone can with the right help and support. I try to be the person I needed when I was growing up. My mom raised me to be strong and determined while my aunt helped me learn to be more caring and loving.

I have worked as a career counselor for a year, as a caseworker for 3 years, as an individual therapist for a year and a family therapist for the past 2 years. I have a lot of personal and professional experience with anger management, career counseling, and relationship building. I enjoy working with clients who are goal oriented, kind, compassionate, that may need encouragement to believe in themself.

I enjoy working with clients from all different backgrounds. I do enjoy working with those that come from lower SES backgrounds because I can relate more to them and use that to try and build rapport. I try to find some common ground with everyone though and do self-disclose personal information as I see fit to help build trust and a good working relationship with my client. I also try to learn about the client’s likes, dislikes, and hobbies, and do my best to remember those things for future sessions. I have been told that I am very positive and my story can be inspiring to help others get through dark times as well.

I define success with my clients by them being more confident in their ability to navigate their day to day life. I also believe client’s opinions matter the most in determining whether or not therapy has been successful. I believe in a client-centered humanistic approach where I let the client lead where we go in sessions, unless I feel there is something important that could help them with what they are expressing currently. I use a lot of grounding, thought challenging, and reflection techniques to help the client stay in the moment and learn themselves to be more in control of their actions. I try to help validate my clients and help them navigate managing thoughts and feelings.

I try to create a welcoming and supportive environment by spending time talking about things that are not serious or hobbies of the clients so that sessions are not all tense and about emotions. I also try to use humor to ease tense moments and sessions as well. I try to approach every situation from a positive perspective while acknowledging the negative to validate the client’s thoughts and experiences. I believe there is always a silver lining and that everything happens for a reason and I work to help my clients develop a positive outlook. I love video games, anime, and sports. I also really enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I am a huge One Piece fan. My goal is to help everyone especially, my friends and family, live the best life they can and this work helps me towards that goal.

One of my previous clients told me they were planning to attempt to take their life, but working with me helped them have a more positive look on life and helped them develop the will to live longer. I have also been told that I helped a family develop better relationships at home, while also helping their child do better at school.

You should work with me because I will work to help you feel empowered and confident in your abilities to handle life’s challenges. I have been able to help people work hard to be more positive and have more belief in them making it through life’s challenges as they arrive. I want client’s to know that I will also be personally invested in trying to help them succeed in whatever avenues they decide to pursue.
